Using Bonus Content to Increase Single Sale Purchases on Ream

Ream is a publishing platform that allows authors to publish stories, build a readership, and earn income directly from readers. Authors can publish serial fiction, e-books, audiobooks, and comics while using discovery, community, subscriptions, and Single Sales to grow their audience and business. Authors can increase single sale purchases on Ream using the platform's built-in tools and settings.

Overview

On Ream, authors can include bonus content with a completed book to add to the value of a single sale, rather than the long-term value of a subscription.

Bonus content is always optional and not always necessary, but when used correctly, it can help a reader feel confident in purchasing a single book.

What Counts as Bonus Content

Bonus content is additional material bundled with a completed book that is not required in order to understand the main story.

Common examples can include:

  • Epilogues or extended endings
  • Bonus scenes or alternate POV chapters
  • Deleted scenes
  • Author notes or commentary
  • Extras included at the end of the book

Bonus content must be included in a completed book as an additional chapter or chapters to be used with single sales.

Bonus content can be noted in the Chapter Title in the Table of Contents

How Bonus Content Affects Single Sales

When bonus content is included with a single sale:

  • Readers receive all included content with one purchase
  • The single sale feels more valuable with exclusive or extra content
  • Readers may be less likely to hesitate or delay purchase, knowing that content not normally seen is included

Bonus content does not change:

How to Add Bonus Content to a Single Sale

Step 1: Open the Completed Book

  1. Log in to your Ream author dashboard
  2. Navigate to Your Story and select Edit
  3. Select the completed book you are selling as a single sale

Step 2: Add the Bonus Content

  1. Add a new chapter or section to the book
  2. Clearly label it as bonus material (for example: “Bonus Scene” or “Exclusive Epilogue”)

The content should be published and visible as part of the completed book.

Step 3: Confirm Single Sale Pricing Is Enabled

  1. Open Single Sales Settings
  2. Confirm that the bonus content is enabled for your Single Sale book (ie: chapter added). If it isn't, then you will have to add the new chapter and click "publish."

Once published, bonus content is automatically included in the single sale purchase.

Common Bonus Content Configurations (examples only)

Configuration 1: Bonus Scene at the End

  • A short extra scene placed after the final chapter
  • Included automatically with the book purchase
  • Commonly used for romance series and serialized fiction

Configuration 2: Extended or Alternate Ending

  • Main ending remains unchanged
  • Alternate or extended ending appears as bonus content
  • Clearly labeled to avoid reader confusion

Configuration 3: Author Notes or Extras Section

  • Behind-the-scenes notes, lore, or commentary
  • Added after the story content
  • Useful for readers who enjoy deeper context

How Bonus Content Appears to Readers:

For readers who purchase the single sale:

  • Bonus content unlocks immediately
  • It appears as part of the purchased book
  • Access remains permanent

For readers who do not purchase but are subscribers to a tier:

  • Bonus content may remain locked (depending on tier level)
  • They will see prompts to purchase or subscribe, if enabled

Best Practices for Bonus Content:

  • Clearly label bonus content so readers know it’s optional
  • Place bonus content after the main story
  • Keep bonus material additive, but not required to enjoy the story
  • Ensure the book is complete before bonus content chapters

Important Notes

  • Bonus content does not require a separate price
  • Only completed books can include bonus content for single sales
  • Bonus content is included with the e-book
  • Removing bonus content later does not revoke past access by the reader https://reamstories.com/policy/terms
