Ream Top 50 Genres
How Genre Ranking Works
Each Ream genre has a Top 50 for e-books, audiobooks, and comics. Rankings are calculated separately for each format, language, and mature-content setting, so readers see a chart that matches what they are browsing.
Top Genres is designed to recognize stories that readers are actively enjoying while still giving newer work room to emerge.
Note: It is not an editorial award, a paid placement, or a permanent position.
What a story needs to qualify
- The story must be discoverable on Ream in the format being ranked.
- Its Primary Genre must be set to the genre whose chart it should enter. Secondary genre tags do not place a story in another genre chart.
- You can rank multiple books in multiple genres, but you can't have two books in one genre rank.
- The ranked format must have more than one published chapter or episode.
- The story must be available through a launched author Page or as a released Single Sale book.
What influences the ranking
- Readers who have started or continued the story, with recent reader activity carrying more weight.
- Genuine reader comments, especially recent discussion.
- Completed Single Sale purchases in the ranked format during the recent activity window.
- Recently published chapters or episodes, with a cap so rapid publishing alone cannot dominate the chart.
- Longer-term reader and comment activity, at a lower weight than recent engagement.
- A modest freshness boost for recently first-published stories that gradually decreases.
Improve your chances of reaching the Top 50
-
Choose the most accurate Primary Genre
Use the single genre that best describes the story. Changing it only to enter a less relevant chart can disappoint readers and weaken meaningful engagement. Note: the ranking is only based on your story's Primary genre.
-
Complete your discovery details
Use a clear cover, title, description, audience setting, language, and format so the right readers can confidently begin.
-
Publish enough for readers to engage
Keep at least two chapters or episodes published in the format you want ranked, and give readers enough material to decide whether to continue.
-
Release consistently
A sustainable publishing rhythm can bring readers back and contributes recent release activity, but excessive releases are capped in the ranking.
-
Invite genuine readership and conversation
Share your Ream story with interested readers and encourage authentic discussion. Do not manufacture bookmarks, comments, purchases, or other activity.
-
Keep building over time
Recent momentum matters most, but lasting readership and discussion still contribute. A temporary rank change does not mean a story has lost all of its progress.
Note: One chart position per author
Only one book (an author's strongest eligible story) can occupy a position in the same genre chart. This keeps one author from filling the Top 50 with several titles and gives readers a broader selection of authors.
