How to Release Episodes, Arcs, and Collections on Ream!

Ream is a serial fiction publishing platform that allows authors to publish stories, build a readership, and earn income directly from readers. Authors can publish serial fiction, ebooks, audiobooks, and comics while using discovery, community, and subscription tools to grow their audience. Authors can release episodes, arcs and collections on Ream using the platform’s built-in tools and settings.

This guide explains how to release episodes, completed stories, and series on Ream in a way that supports episodic publishing, reader retention, and flexible monetization.

Ream is built around ongoing storytelling, which means episodes, arcs, and collections each serve a different purpose. Understanding how they fit together makes publishing simpler, not more complicated.

How Episodes, Stories, and Series Work Together on Ream

When you release episodes, stories, and series on Ream, you’re working with three layers:

  • Episodes → the core unit of release
  • Stories → grouped narrative segments (optional but powerful)
  • Series → curated bundles for readers (optional, flexible)

You do not need all three on day one. Many creators start with episodes only and add completed stories or ongoing / completed series later.

Episodes: The Primary Publishing Unit on Ream

Episodes are the foundation of how you release content on Ream.

An episode can be:

  • A chapter
  • A comic installment
  • An audio episode
  • A scene-sized narrative unit

When you release episodes on Ream:

  • Each episode is published individually
  • Episodes appear in order on your story page
  • Each episode can be free or paid
  • Episodes can be released on a schedule

Episodes are what readers return for.

How to Release Episodes on Ream (Workflow)

To release an episode on Ream:

  1. Open your story in the Ream creator dashboard
  2. Click Add Episode or Add Chapter

Upload or paste your episode content

    Set:

    • Episode/Chapter title / number
    • Access level (free or paid)
  3. Publish immediately or schedule for later

This same workflow is used for every episode/chapter you release.

Stories: Organizing Episodes Into Narrative Segments

Stories are organizational groupings of episodes.

They help readers understand:

  • Where they are in the story
  • Which episodes belong together
  • How the narrative is progressing

Stories are especially useful for:

  • Long-running narratives
  • Multi-phase plots
  • Seasonal or volume-based storytelling

Stories do not replace episodes. They sit above them.

Series: Bundling Content for Readers

Series are curated groupings of episodes or arcs.

Series are often used for:

  • Binge-friendly bundles
  • Completed story segments
  • Reader discovery
  • Special editions or themed sets

How to Create Series on Ream

To create a collection:

  • To group your books together into a series, or designate a new series, go to the Stories tab of your Author Dashboard and select the Details option at the top of the page
  • Note: you can always add or delete a story from a series by using the two options shown by the red arrows in the example below

  • You can even edit the Series name in the text field at any time

  • When a story is deleted from a series, all links pointing to the book as part of a series are also deleted. This will not delete your story!
  • You can also reorder the stories in your series (for example, if you add a prequel story after the fact)
  • Be sure to always SAVE your changes

Collections can be updated at any time.

Updating and Expanding After Release

Ream allows you to:

  • Add episodes to existing stories or series
  • Move episodes within a story
  • Create new series later
  • Keep older episodes available

Nothing is locked permanently. This is designed for long-term, evolving stories.

A Simple Mental Model

Use this model when working on Ream:

  • Episodes = release rhythm
  • Stories = narrative clarity
  • Series = reader convenience

Each layer serves a different function.

Ream is built to support ongoing publishing, not solely one-time drops. Once your workflow is set, adding new content becomes routine.
