What Single Sales Are on Ream (For Authors)

Ream is a publishing platform that allows authors to publish stories, build a readership, and earn income directly from readers. Authors can publish serial fiction, e-books, audiobooks, and comics while using discovery, community, subscriptions, and Single Sales to grow their audience and business. Authors can create Single Sales books on Ream using the platform's built-in tools and settings.

Overview

On Ream, single sales allow authors to sell completed books to readers for a one-time purchase, without requiring a subscription.

At this time, single sales are only available for completed works. Serial fiction, episodes, and in-progress series cannot be sold individually as single sales.

What Counts as a Single Sale for Authors

A single sale on Ream is:

A completed book
Sold for a one-time price
Purchased independently of subscriptions
Permanently accessible to the reader after purchase https://reamstories.com/policy/terms

Single sales do not renew and do not require ongoing updates.

What Is Not Eligible for Single Sales

Currently, the following cannot be sold as single sales:

Individual chapters or episodes
In-progress books or serials
Ongoing or incomplete works
Partial releases
Audiobooks or Comics (coming soon!)

If a book is still being updated or added to, it must be completed before single sale pricing can be enabled.

How Single Sales Work for Authors

When you enable single sales on a completed book:

You set a one-time price
Readers can purchase without subscribing
Purchased readers retain access permanently

You may still offer the same book:

As part of a subscription (if you choose)
As free content
As a single sale

Single sales are an alternate monetization option, not a replacement for subscriptions.

How to Set Up a Single Sale (Authors)

Navigate to the Stories tab on your Author Dashboard, choose a completed story, click the Edit button and select the Sales section

Select your price and type

Select your Publish Settings

Select any discounts you want to apply

Then click Add Discount
Recheck to make sure all information is correct
Then choose schedule release (for preorder books) OR Publish Now (see our Pre-Order Guide here)

How Single Sales Interact With Subscriptions

Single sales can co-exist with subscriptions.

Common author setups include:

Subscriptions for serialized or ongoing work + single sales for completed books
Single sales for backlist titles
Subscriptions for early access, with completed books later offered as single sales

Subscriptions are not required for readers to purchase single sales.

Important Notes for Authors

Only completed books are eligible for single sales
Pricing is controlled by the author
Single sales are one-time purchases
Readers retain access even if they purchase as a 'discount single sales purchase + subscription', and then unsubscribe
Availability may expand in future updates
